Dos Vidas Pottery

Bold color, movement, and clay shaped slowly by hand

Maya Brewington taught school for 35 years, raised two kids, and retired in 2015.

Desperate for something to keep her busy, she randomly took a pottery class for adults at the local community college. It was an immediate connection —— more classes followed, equipment was purchased, and she started practicing every day.

Dos Vidas Pottery started in 2016 and her pottery business took off.

Maya’s pottery has evolved and changed over the years. She incorporates objects of the Earth like wood, rocks, minerals, and metals, but also textile embellishments and beads into her work. She loves strong colors and movement in her work.

She has always been a handbuilder, preferring the freedom and endless possibilities of forming clay into artistic pieces with her hands.

“I love strong bold colors in my work, as well as the concept of movement that guides the eye through the entirety of my pieces.”
